THE WHALEBONE IS NOW STONE Haarlemmerdijk 168 Amsterdam A chained whalebone. This beautiful tablet was placed here after the demolition of its original location on a warehouse. A drawing of Saenredam shows us that a real whalebone even hangs out on the old Amsterdam town hall. Later on they sculptured them in stone. This explains the text. This is a good example of a "petrified sign-board."
