THE MILKMAID
Ouwezijds Kolk Amsterdam |
This is a milk-maid in traditional costume.
She is carrying two buckets by means of a yoke.
To get to the market the farmers often used rowing-boats.
In the town of Gouda there was a pipe factory.
One of their pipes had the mark MILKMAID.
For that reason tobacconists sometimes used the name MILKMAID for their shops. |
